TiVo is one of the most widely used platforms for people who need cable DVRs, OTA DVRs, and streaming players. It doesn’t matter which device you are using; it will have the remote. So, TiVo remote not working can hinder the performance and users’ access to shows. However, you don’t need to be worried about it because we have outlined the troubleshooting methods!
TiVo Remote Not Working
1) IR Mode
The TiVo remotes are designed with various modes of functionality, and IR mode is one of them. The IR Mode is the infrared mode that is designed to work on a wireless basis. In case the TiVo remote is working on the IR mode and is not working, there are chances that you aren’t pointing it right. This is because IR mode demands the remote to be pointed at the TiVo box.
That being said, if you’ve been using the remote in a different pointing, the functionality will be affected. So, just point the remote directly at the TiVo box, and it will work. In addition to this, make sure that there are no hindrances or blockages between the TiVo box and remote. If there are blockages, remove them and try again. On the contrary, if the remote is still not working, shift to the next troubleshooting method!
2) RF Mode
In addition to the IR mode, there is an RF mode. With RF mode, the users can change the channels before pointing the remote at the box. So, if you are using the remote in RF mode and the TiVo remote won’t work, there are various points to consider, such as;
It doesn’t matter which mode you are using on the remote; the remote’s batteries will always influence the functionality. So, if it’s been a long time since you last changed the batteries in TiVo remote, you should try to change the batteries. However, while changing the batteries, make sure that batteries are bought from a reliable source or have a good brand tag.
On the other hand, if you have recently changed batteries in the TiVo remote and the remote still won’t work, you need to check the installation of batteries. In that case, we suggest that you remove batteries from the TiVo remote and install them again. Before we wrap it up, it’s important to note down that the TiVo remote in RF mode will consume too much power, which drains the batteries.
Okay, so changing and reinserting the batteries didn’t work? You can try resetting the TiVo remote. Before we carry on with the reset, it’s important to note down that it will delete the settings, such as pairing details and IR codes. For resetting the TiVo remote, press and hold the TV Pwr and TiVo buttons until the indicator lights turn red.
Then, press the thumbs down button (it will be in red color) three times and hit the enter button. As a result, the indicator light will flash red three times, which means the TiVo remote will be reset.
In some cases, remote not working is not the issue with TiVo remote but with the TiVo box. For rebooting the box, you will need to switch it off by taking out the power cable. When the power cable is out, wait for around twenty seconds to ensure that the box is switched off completed. After twenty seconds, you can switch on the box by inserting the power cable and try using the TiVo remote again.
The remotes tend to work wireless which means there will always be some interference. For this reason, if the TiVo remote is not working, there are chances that other remotes are interfering with the signals. For instance, if the remotes from game controllers or DVD players are switched on, it might be causing the interference.
For this reason, if you have any such remotes around, just switch them off and try using the TiVo remote again. Once the interferences from other remotes are removed, the TiVo remote will work fine!
7) TiVo Central
If your TiVo remote is integrated with the 1-2 switch, we suggest that you change the settings. The best practice is to switch to TiVo Central. For this purpose, just push the TiVo button on the remote, and the TiVo Central will be switched on.
