Netgear N900 Power Light Blinking – What Does It Mean?
When it comes down to the power light blinking on your Netgear router, there are chances that the router has an issue. It could be a hardware issue or a software issue, such as the corrupt firmware. So, in the section below, we are sharing the troubleshooting methods for you!
1. Firmware
The firmware gets corrupt if you disrupt the installation process by switching off the router before the installation is complete. In this case, you need to update the firmware on the router and it will fix the software issues caused by firmware. The firmware update can be accessed via the official Netgear website. The firmware update will be available in the dashboard.
2. Reset
This might sound to cliché but it is actually true. With this being said, you need to reset the router by pressing the reset button. Keep in mind that you need to keep pressing the reset button until it resets and the router stops and the power light stops blinking. Once the power light stops blinking, switch off the router by taking out the power cord and you will be able to fix the issue!
3. USB Cable
In case reset didn’t work out the power light blinking issues, there are higher chances that the USB cable that’s connecting the modem and router has gone bad. With this being said, you need to change the USB cable and make sure you use a high-quality cable. In addition, we suggest choosing the USB cable with copper wiring because it’s better at transmitting the signals.
Also, once you are connecting the USB cable to the modem and router, we suggest that you connect the modem to the WAN port on the router through a USB cable.
4. Power Cycle
You can also try power cycling the router and modem at the same time to fix up the power light blinking issue. With this being said, you need to remove the power adapters and cables from the modem and router and make sure there is no cable connection between them. After waiting for a few minutes, connect the modem and router with the ethernet cable.
Then, connect the modem with the power adapter and switch it on. Once the modem is fully switched on, connect the router with the power cord, and switch it on. Lastly, when everything starts working and establishes the connection, the power light blinking issue will be resolved.
5. Ethernet Connection
Sure, you are using the router but you need to test that router is working fine in the first place. So, we suggest that you connect the computer with the ethernet cable rather than through the router. If you are able to use the internet, just replace the router because your router has hardware issues.
