Every Roku remote has a battery cover, and the battery cover has two uses: aesthetics and protection.
The Roku device remotes have a simplistic yet sleek look. Having an opening that displays two multi-colored cells ruins the elegant image meticulously crafted by the Roku company designers. This is why the Roku remote’s battery compartment is covered with a seamless battery cover that blends into its body.
Batteries are small, especially the batteries used inside a Roku device remote. Smaller batteries mean they’re easier to lose and difficult to look for. This is why the Roku remote’s battery compartment is covered with a seamless battery cover that protects the internal contents and keeps them from falling out.
Roku Remote Battery Cover
Types of battery covers
Different Roku models come with different remotes that have different battery covers. For example, there’s a Roku device model-name 4230X2 that comes with a remote that has the model name RC79. Similarly, there’s a Roku remote model-name RCO3. Both RC79 and RCO3 have different battery covers. The RC79 has a sliding battery cover that comes off by applying a bit of outward pressure. The RCO3, on the other hand, has a latched battery cover. You have to pinch the latch to take the RCO3’s battery cover off. But not all Roku remote models have a different battery cover. For example, the Roku remote model RC19 has a battery cover one hundred percent similar to the RCO3 battery cover.
Just like RCO3, RC19, and RC79, other Roku devices have a different or the same battery cover.
The other Roku remote models are, R2, R3, R4, RP4620, RP4630, Roku Ultra, Roku LT, Roku XD, Roku XDS, Roku HD, Roku Express, Roku Express+, RP3920, RP3921, RSS3600, and RSS3800.
Roku remote covers materials
Roku remotes are made from a molded plastic called the Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). Surprisingly this is the same type of plastic used to make drain waste vent systems. The plastic is heated to mold it into the shape of a particular model’s remote cover. A few other materials are added into the heated plastic to make it more durable.
What if the Roku remote cover is damaged?
If your Roku remote cover gets damaged, you’ll never get a cover replacement from the Roku company. According to Roku, they’re a streaming company. Their remotes and Roku devices are made by third-party manufacturers, and the remote manufacturers refuse to sell remote cover replacements.
There are four possible solutions if your Roku remote gets damaged. The first solution is buying a new Roku remote. If your Roku remote is an IR-remote, you’ll find good-quality, cheap replacements from eBay. On eBay, you can buy a Roku remote for 7 to 10 US dollars. If you don’t care about the cost, a brand new Roku remote costs around 35 to 40 US dollars. 35 to 40 US dollars is almost the price that can buy you a brand new Roku remote and device.
If you don’t want to buy a new remote, you can try 3D printing. Use the Roku mobile application, or fix the remote cover with a piece of electrical tape.
