TiVo is a famous company that provides its users with cable boxes. These can be used to either watch your favorite shows, movies and channels using cable services. Alternatively, you can use the cable box to stream these for you. The only requirement for this is having a stable internet connection on your device. This can be established by a few methods.
If you are confused about any of these then you can easily consult the manual provided with your device. Aside from this, TiVo users have reported getting the error message ‘Gateway not found’ on their box when trying to use the internet services. If this has happened to you as well, then here are some simple ways you can troubleshoot.
TiVo Gateway Not Found
- Change Gateway Channel
Gateway errors can occur on your devices for several reasons. One of these can be due to the channels selected on your wireless adapter. Choosing a channel that is not supported by the connection can end up making it fail. Considering this, if you want to fix the problem then open up the settings of your router. Use your login credential to enter the settings.
If you have not changed them then the default is set to ‘admin’. Enter them and then open up the Gateway channel tab. Usually, most routers have this set to automatic, so change this value to a specific number. This should allow you to fix your issue. If the error persists, then try changing the value a certain number of times. Most users have reported that setting this value to ‘6’ fixed the issue for them.
If you are still unsure about any of these then you can also take a look at your router’s manual. This should contain the entire process and values that you can configure on it. Lastly, another recommendation is to change the encryption settings on your device as well. Most people got rid of the gateway error by using WPA – WPA2 as their encryption setting.
- Power Cycle
Aside from this, an easy fix to most problems is power cycling your modem box. However, keep in mind that you should keep your device switched off for a few minutes before you decide to switch It back on. This will give it enough time to completely delete all of its temporary cache files. Additionally, the reason why you are getting this error should also be wiped off your device with these.
- Check Another Device
Sometimes the problem can be on your internet connection that you are trying to connect with your TiVo cable box. You can confirm this by trying to connect a separate device with your internet instead.
If you notice that the other device is also not working. Then this means that there is a problem from the backend of your ISP. You can either try to contact them directly to get your issue fixed. Alternatively, you can also try troubleshooting your internet connection on your own. But if you don’t have any knowledge about it then it is recommended that you get professional help.
