Cable services are now being replaced by digital boxes. This is because the older cable modems required complete wiring to be installed in your home. On top of this, the services still had a lot of problems and you would occasionally notice that the channels were blurry. However, companies have now come up with digital boxes. These can be used to provide you with your favorite channels by using your internet connection.
The best thing about them is that you don’t have to worry about the resolution worsening. One of the most known companies that manufacture these products is TiVo. They have a huge lineup of products that you can select from. While TiVo might be great, some users have reported that their device keeps rebooting. If you are also getting this problem then here are some simple ways you can troubleshoot.
TiVo Keeps Rebooting
- Faulty Hard Drive
The most common reason for your device to keep rebooting is that it has a bad hard drive. Alternatively, your storage device might not be plugged in correctly. You can confirm this by removing the device. Afterward, clean the ports carefully. You should note that if the pins on them get damaged then your storage device or cable modem can become permanently damaged.
Proceed to connect your drive back in firmly. Make sure it is not loose and is connected properly. If you are still getting the rebooting issue then your storage device might be faulty. Confirm this by using a spare drive and connect it. If this fixes your problem then you should purchase a new hard drive. If you haven’t made a backup of your data then it should also be most likely gone.
- Motherboard Problems
In some cases, the motherboard on your device can get damaged. If this then you will have to get it fixed by the company. TiVo usually provides a warranty for up to 2 years. So, if your device is under it then the company should easily be able to fix the device for you. Although, if it has become void then you will have to pay for the charges.
The motherboard on these devices is usually really hard to fix and most users will have to purchase a new TiVo cable box. In this case, it is better that you go for a newer model. It should have better features and should also be able to last you a long time.
- Power Supply
Sometimes a bad power supply can also cause your box to reboot. But this is unlikely to happen. You can still confirm this by using a spare power supply to test if that fixes your problem. However, some TiVo devices have an internal supply, to use a separate one on you will have to open up the box. This will most likely void your warranty so you shouldn’t do this. If you are still interested in it then you can try to replace the internal power supply with a new one and see if that fixed your rebooting issue.
