Internet Service Providers or more commonly known simply as ISPs have a large number of user databases. Most of the traffic generated by these is from popular sites on YouTube or Google. This is because people usually use these sites to search for data or to look up websites.
Slow Internet Except For YouTube
If your internet is running into problems and you are getting slow internet on all the sites except YouTube, then here are some ways you can fix it.
- Power Cycle Devices
Most modems and routers store up cache files in them. These are then used to speed up the performance of the internet connection for their users. If your device has been running for some time then these files might have piled up on its memory. If that is the case, then these will end up slowing down your internet speed instead of speeding it up.
The only way to get rid of all these temporary files is to power cycle your modem as well as your router. To do so, start by switching off all of these devices. This also includes the systems that you have connected to this connection. Afterward, disconnect the network cables and power cables from all of these devices. While most people would recommend waiting for a few minutes, it is good that you wait for up to 15 minutes. This gives your devices enough time to completely get rid of all the files and cool down their hardware as well. You can then start to plug in all of the cables.
However, only power up your modem at first. The lights on it will blink for some time before becoming stable. After this, switch on your router and wait for it to become stable as well. You can now proceed to power on all of your devise one by one. Although, you should check your connection first by powering up only one of these devices. This should fix the problem that you are getting in most cases.
- Reset Router
If simply power cycling does not fix the problem that you are getting then there might be a problem with your configuration files. This can be quite difficult to deal with in some cases due to the fact that there are a lot of files in most routers. Figuring out which might be causing the problem can take a lot of time.
Considering this, the fastest method to fix this is to reset your router. This will end up deleting all of your files and returning them to the default settings. The only downside of doing this is that you will have to set up all your files again. This might even be confusing for some people, so it is recommended that you follow a guide online if you are having trouble setting up your router.
- Problem from Backend
Lastly, if none of the steps mentioned above fix your problem then there might be an error from the backend. This usually gets resolved on its own so you should stay patient and wait for some time. However, if this still does not fix then you can try contacting your ISP. Tell them about the problem that you are getting in detail. Leaving out stuff can make it difficult for the support team to identify what might be causing the problem.
They should then be able to take action after listening to your queries. If the problem is from the backend then they will resolve it themselves, however, if there is a problem in the wiring of your house. Then the team should send in people to take a look at all the internet wiring. It is recommended that you help and cooperate with the support team to get your problem fixed as soon as possible.
