The UniFi access points are integrated with the ability to connect and manage hundreds of devices concurrently, promising better management and control over the network. However, if the UniFi access point not discovered is a common error, with which the users won’t be able to connect their network devices to the access point. So, let’s check out some troubleshooting steps that you can try!
UniFi Access Point Not Discovered Fix:
- Firmware
To begin with, you need to ensure that the firmware is updated on the access point, particularly when the access point is showing in the UniFi controller. We recommend that you upgrade the firmware before you adopt the access point. For this purpose, you can tap on the upgrade button on the interface, and everything else will be handled for you. However, before you begin the firmware update, make sure that you ensure a stable and high-speed internet connection. In addition to this, you must not reboot the AP during the firmware update.
- Connect Through SSH
If the device is not appearing in the UniFi controller, it’s recommended that you opt for a manual setup through SSH. For this purpose, you’ve to run the restore command and wait till the access point reboots on its own. Once the access point is rebooting, you have to SSH into the device, and the device will become discoverable. In particular, the device will appear in the devices section of the controller, and you only have to press the adopt button to establish the connection.
- VLAN Configuration
The third solution is to check the configuration of your switch – the VLAN configuration, to be precise. This is because if the access point is not being adopted, you have to ensure that the VLAN configuration is not hindering the devices from connecting to the network controller. You can change the VLAN configuration through the AP interface.
- Ports
The access point is sometimes unable to appear in the search list when the ports have been blocked by the firewall. To resolve this issue, you must ensure that port 8080 on the access point is open on the device. In addition to this, you must configure the firewall device or settings between the device and controller to allow the traffic flow and ease the device discovery. In fact, it would be great if you disable the firewall for a few minutes to ensure easier connectivity.
- DHCP Server
The DHCP server issues can also interfere with the discovery or adoption issue. For this purpose, you must ensure that the access point is able to communicate and transmit to the router, and the router must lease the DHCP address to the access point. The experts also recommend pinging the access point. On the other hand, if the access point isn’t listed on the lease, you need to reboot the access point to make sure the network is rebooted, and it acquires the DHCP address. On top of everything, you must upgrade the firmware and SSH into the access point to make the AP discoverable.
