Netgear Router Internet Light Blinking White: What Does It Mean?
Sometimes the router gives out a blinking white light and the users are unable to connect to the Internet. This is generally a sign that the router is trying but is failing to connect to the modem. In such a situation, there are several steps that you can take to troubleshoot the issue. They are listed below.
1) Restart Your Network
The first thing that you can do to resolve the issue is to restart your network. Make sure that you restart in the given sequence. Firstly turn off the modem and unplug it. After that turn off the modem router and the computer. Now plug in your modem, turn it back on, and wait for at least 2 minutes. After that turn on the modem router. Again wait for at least 2 minutes. Finally, turn on your computer. This will most probably fix the issue and you will be able to use the Internet.
2) Check the Connections
Carefully check all the connection wires coming to the router. Make sure that they are properly connected to the router. If there is a loose connection or a damaged cable, such as a LAN cable, it can disrupt the Internet services resulting in a continuously blinking white light. If there is a loose connection or a damaged cable, replace it and then try reconnecting the modem router. Check to see if the issue is resolved.
3) Factory Reset the Router
There is a possibility that something may be wrong with the settings of the modem router. In such a situation you will need to factory reset the router. Factory resetting the modem router will get rid of the stored settings including any customized settings.
4) Make Sure Your Modem is Connected to the Internet
Make sure that your modem is connected to the Internet. Check all the connections to and from the modem. Ensure that you can browse the internet.
5) Contact Your Service Provider
If you have tried all the things mentioned above and still you are seeing a blinking white light on the router, there is a possibility that you are not receiving the Internet from your service provider. In such a situation, it is probably best to contact the service provider’s customer support helpline. Let them know of the issue that you are facing. Their technical department will either help you get rid of the issue by telling you how you can do the proper settings for the modem and the router or they will ensure the issue is resolved from their end. In some rare cases, they may send a technician to check the problem and fix it for you.
Just in case the problem is not resolved even after doing all the things mentioned above, there is a possibility that the modem or the router may have malfunctioned. If this is the case then changing the faulty device may be the only solution.
