While there are many ISP services that you can choose from. You should note that there are several types of connections that you can choose from. Most of these use copper wiring in them which are called DSL connections.
On the other hand, newer networks have moved on to using fiber-optic wiring. These are both durable and much faster when compared to DSL services. The only downside is that you have to pay an additional amount for their installation which can be expensive. Other than that, the monthly fees are almost the same as regular DSL services while the speeds are several folds better.
Google Fiber Bridge Mode
Google is one of the most famous companies that most people already know about. They have recently launched their internet service which is known as Google Fiber. This has tons of features and the speeds on the connection are amazing as well. One feature that some people might be confused about is bridge mode.
Before getting to how this can be enabled, you must understand what it is. Bridge mode is only required in specific cases. These are mostly related to having double NAT issues. This means that you are using more than one router at your home which is connected directly to your modem. While this does not affect your network’s performance.
The only issue that you will have is when trying to play online games. Some applications and consoles require services like UPnP, port forwarding, or IP address assignments. These cannot be enabled when using Double NAT on your network. Though, in some cases, people can get Double NAT issues even when they are using only a single router. Considering this, enabling bridge mode should help in fixing their problem.
How to Enable Bridge Mode?
If you are experiencing double NAT issues on your network then you can enable bridge mode to fix it. The procedure is quite simple and you can start by connecting a device to Google Fiber. Once this device has a working connection on it, you can log in to your network. You will have to use the default credentials set by your ISP here which are usually set to ‘admin’ as both username and password.
Although, if this does not work then you can try entering ‘password’ as the password. Keep in mind that these are case sensitive so switch off your caps lock. Once you have logged in, you can browse the features or directly search for bridge mode.
Once you find the tab, click on enable to switch the feature on. You can then save your changes and reboot your device. Keep it switched off for several minutes before starting it back up. This is to give the device enough time to apply all the changes. Once your modem and router start back up, they should start working as a single network which means that bridge mode has been enabled.
