After buying an expensive network package the first thing you did was checking your network speed. Having gotten a satisfactory result from testing the speed on a Wi-Fi connection, you get excited to try it through a wired connection. But in a shocking twist, your network speed on a wired connection gets halved which leaves you baffled and utterly confused.
ASUS Router Slow Wired Connection
Below we have listed several reasons and their remedies.
1) Hard Reset
A hard reset is a good way to realign some mixed up information. It will reset all your previous settings giving your router a fresh start. You can perform a hard reset by following these steps:
- Pull your router out of the socket, turn it off.
- Press the WPS button and hold it in that position to turn the router on.
- Even after the power light turns on, do not lift your finger off the WPS button.
- After a few moments, the LED light will start flashing. Stop holding the WPS button.
- After you release the WPS button, the LED light will stop flashing and the router will automatically reboot.
- Check if your problem is solved.
2) Upgrading firmware
The Asus router has a new update now and then. Every new update fixes a previous bug or optimizes performance. Sometimes a slow wired connection can occur due to outdated software.
You can update your Asus ac3200 firmware by following these steps:
- Open your web browser.
- To open your routers user interface, click on the search bar and type in 192.168.1.1. This is the IP address of your router. A routers IP address can be searched for on Google.
- Pressing enter will open up the login menu. Type in your user name and password. Click on the sign-in button to proceed.
- Within the user interface on the top right corner and below the option for language, you will see a few symbols. Left to a symbol called app you will see a yellow icon blinking. Right-click on the blinking icon.
- Selecting the icon will open a dialog menu. This menu will have the option called update now. Click it.
- Another way to update your firmware is by going through administration. Click on the administration option.
- Look for the firmware upgrade tab and select it.
- Below the Signature Version, you will see the option for the Firmware version. Click on it.
- If there is a new upgrade, a pop-up window will open up on top of the user interface. Click on Firmware upgrade, doing so will update your software.
3) NAT acceleration On/Off
NAT acceleration will help you troubleshoot your wired connection problems. This is a feature that is only available in an ASUS router. Its main function is to speed up your internet connection.
Following these steps will allow you to manipulate a routers NAT acceleration:
- Open your web browser.
- To open your routers user interface, click on the search bar and type in 192.168.1.1. This is the IP address of your router. A routers IP address can be searched for on Google.
- Pressing enter will open up the login menu. Type in your user name and password. Click on the sign-in button to proceed.
- Within Advanced settings, you will find a setting called LAN. Click on it.
- Click on the tab labeled Switch Control.
- Below a setting called Jumbo frame, you will find the option for NAT acceleration. Enable it.
- Click on Apply to save your changes.
4) Jumbo Frame
Similar to NAT acceleration, enabling this setting may solve your problem.
You can do that by following these steps:
- Open your web browser.

- Pressing enter will open up the login menu. Type in your user name and password. Click on the sign-in button to proceed.
