Linksys Routers are a true marvel of technology and they make possibilities come true that you might think were not possible. While they are counted as some of the most durable and cost-efficient routers out there, the connectivity is pretty stable on them as well. And to top it all, the speed that you can possibly get on them is also phenomenal and second to none. If you feel like the router might not be giving out the full speed, then here are a few things that you need to do.
Linksys Router Not Getting Full Speed
1) Check the ISP speed
The first thing that you should be checking on is ISP speed. While there are chances that your router might not be working at its full potential and the speed might not be right. But you cannot simply rule out the possibility that this might be caused due to the ISP throttling or some issue with the speed at their end. So, plug in the cable directly in some device that supports the ethernet connection and check the speed there using a speed test. If you feel like it is the same as the router, then there is nothing that you can do at the router end, and you will need to contact ISP to get it improved.
However, if there is a considerable difference between the speeds with and without the router, here are a few things that you will have to take care of.
2) Run a Power Cycle
Most of the time, the router simply gets stuck with an error or some unnecessary tasks that might be consuming the processing power and RAM of the router. To get that fixed, you will need to run a power cycle on your router and that will be enough to have it fixed. To run a power cycle, you should turn the router off and then unplug the power chord afterward. Leave the power chord out for 10 seconds and then plug it back in. This should be enough to get it fixed and you will not have to worry about it again.
Another thing that you need to know is that if you are using a modem and router together, you will have to restart both the router and modem for optimal results.
3) Remove any VPNs
Linksys routers have in-built VPNs and a way to mask your IP address when you are connected over the internet. But sometimes that can also cause you to have issues with the speed. Make sure that there is no such settings activated on your router and that will make it work to you.
4) Get 5GHz
If you need some extraordinary speed, then you need to change the router band to 5GHz from 2.4GHz. We all know that it ensures optimal speed, but as a result network optimization will be compromised. You will not get optimal stabilization and connectivity but as long as your connected devices are in the same room as your router, this should be working fine and you will get the maximum possible speed on your Wi-Fi network.
